Not raining, pouring
Son is not well. Certainly not well enough to be in school. The cat has been injured, probably in a fight with another cat, but at this stage I don’t know. I’ve taken the day off work to be at home with son. And I think that we should be taking the cat to the vet – hopefully we can be given an appointment this morning. I did think of trying to explain to the school that while son won’t be at school, he will have to come with me to the vet …
Thankfully, a buyer has been announced for the Dunfermline (Building Society) – which is a relief …

Son has a fever; I’m not feeling great …
Wife and I have been helping daughter create a model of the Scottish Parliament building – unlike the original, we’ve tried not to go over budget …
A trip to the v-e-t
The cat has been limping, to the extent that last night and this morning he wasn’t putting any weight at all on his sore leg. We wondered if he’d sustained a fresh injury, or if his two week old wound wasn’t healing. Either way, it was time to become acquainted with our local vet. Which has caused a bit of a crisis regarding work …
I am not normally put on helpdesk duty in the morning. This is a long standing arrangement, recognising that if either of our children was ill, I could have to stay at home at short notice. But the student who normally does several sessions a week is on holiday, so when I found myself slated for morning duty, I didn’t quibble. I thought that I would try to take the cat to the vet this afternoon, so I phoned from work, but the vet wanted to see him this morning, in case he needed an X-ray. Hopefully, someone will have volunteered to take my place – I had to leave without managing to find anybody.
Thankfully, the only treatment required is further antibiotics. I think that I’ve done the right thing …
A new day
Thanks again for the hugs and prayers. Sometimes, being family can be difficult. I’m thinking of a Fischy Music song, which doesn’t appear to be linked anywhere, which has the line (from memory), “Sometimes it can be hard to be a dad”, but also, “Sometimes it can be hard to be a mum”, and “Sometimes it can be hard to be a child” …
[I was typing blind, but now I seem to have been able to drag the boxes so that they're below this box instead of overlapping it - so for those, like me, who are spatially challenged, there may be hope ...]

Reading this BBC News article … I am intrigued (well, angered would be more accurate) by this statement:
If this exercise had been done with criminal intent it would be breaking the law.
But then I am generally angered whenever journalists pull a stunt which breaks the law, and they don’t get punished – they do it because they can get away with it …
The Silence at the Song’s End
I have almost finished reading “The Silence at the Song’s End“, by Nicholas Heiney. It could be appropriate that I find myself at a loss for words. This book conveys deep sadness …
The cat is here
But I don’t think that they explained to him that he is now a cat with a home. Seriously, though, he is, not surprisingly, somewhat unsettled …
